Friendly reminder from GPD Animal Control to please bring your furry friends inside! Due to extreme temperatures this week, most normally acceptable dog houses will NOT provide them with adequate shelter during these next couple of nights. We will be strictly enforcing our ordinances regarding this, so for those who are curious, here is our adequate shelter ordinance! Don’t forget the animal is required to have access to said shelter AT ALL TIMES if left unattended (even if outside for half an hour!!)
7.08.015 A shelter for a domesticated animal shall be deemed inadequate unless said shelter; has a roof, at least 4 enclosed sides, a doorway, and a solid level floor, contains dry bedding in sufficient quantity for insulation against cold and damp, is structurally sound and able to contain the animals and maintained in good repair to protect the animals from injury, safety, or health hazards, adequately provides the animals with shade, warmth and protection from weather, water and the elements, and is kept clean and free of filth.
